Bruins waiting to play in the "real" Finals

After steam rolling the Carolina Hurricanes 6-2 in game 2, the Bruins are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals. That 6-2 absurdity on Sunday afternoon showed the Carolina Hurricanes have zero business being here.

In the first game, the Canes played with the Bruins, and actually had a lead entering the third period. But two penalties from old friend Dougie Hamilton helped the Bruins rack up a 4-goal third period. Dougie’s frustration and stupid mistakes show that Carolina is indeed young.

Not to get too cocky, but this series is just a tune up to the real Finals for the Bruins. Carolina is not legit. They got by the hungover Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, who didn’t really seem to care this year. Then they took out a less than impressive New York Islanders team.

The Canes have young talent in Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen, but their biggest calling card all year has been their ridiculous post game celebrations. This is not a franchise that should be in the Stanley Cup Finals.

As the series moves down south, the Hurricanes might grab a game on their home ice. I would be shocked if they manage to come back to Boston in a tied series. I expect these Bruins to take care of business in five games and get some much needed rest before the the next round when we might see old friend, and I mean old, Joe Thornton (he’s 39) and the San Jose Sharks.

Jumbo Joe was of course traded away from the Bruins in 2005 and went on to win MVP that season. He has yet to win a cup. Bergeron was in his second season that year and it allowed the B’s to build around him and soon to be free agent acquisition Zdeno Chara.

The Sharks current team has arguably two of the best defensemen in the league in Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson. They put up six goals in game one

take a 1-0 series lead over St. Louis.

With a much more interesting and intense matchup looming, this Bruins team has come too far to blow a 2-0 lead. I don’t think a road trip will change much for the team who has won five straight games since their game 3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. This series was really over way before it started.
