The NFL Sure Does Love Cheaters

Fourth & Goal with The Bam!

Hypocrisy in sports has once again reared it's ugly head.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane. Alex Rodriguez was essentially run out of baseball because he used PED's. Mark McGwire, same thing. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, despite zero evidence of PED use, continue to get the shaft from Hall of Fame voters because they are unfairly judged to have used steroids.

Julian Edelman used PED's. Got suspended for it, much like Arod and McGwire, but is welcomed back to the NFL and is heralded as the MVP of the Super Bowl. As if nothing ever happened he is crowned king of the weekend in Atlanta. The hypocrisy is real.

So, why then does Julian Edelman get a free pass?

Baseball players get one strike and then ostracized for life. However, NFL players can do no wrong apparently. Maybe the NFL should take a look at the college football model. When college football teams break the rules, they are banned from post season appearances.

And how about Tom Brady? He was part of a massive obstruction job during the investigation into the Patriots deflating footballs. Brady might not have physically deflated the footballs but, to steal a great line from a great movie, “he absolutely ordered the Code Red.”

If Tom knew nothing of the deflation issue, why did he go to such great lengths to destroy his phone and hinder the investigation? Despite this, and his four game suspension for it, Brady is hailed as a hero.

Julian Edelman as the MVP of the Super Bowl, much like Tom Brady two years ago, is a black eye for the NFL.

Perhaps the NFL should prove it's serious about cheaters. You cheat, you use PED's, you are banned from post season for one year. Maybe then players and fans wouldn't just shrug off a meaningless four game suspension and take it more seriously.
