Patriots Report - From Waaaaay DOWNTOWN!

The "Unamed Source" is famous in media circles these days. This one in particular works in local sports media, but for any number of reasons, wants to stay anonymous.

Julian Edelman is back! God it’s been a while since Jules has been on the field, but he returned Thursday night against the Colts, here’s three takes from way downtown to commemorate the occasion.

It’s been a long time since Julian Edelman has played a meaningful game, the last time he did that? Super Bowl 51! After blowing out his knee in last year’s pre-season and this year’s suspension, Edelman hasn’t played a meaningful snap since the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. That game was played on February 5, 2017. How long ago was that? Two full baseball regular seasons have been played since Julian Edelman played a game that counted. (BTW, Edelman has only played two meaningful games during the Trump presidency, none during the regular season until Thursday night.

Brady needs a friend.

Through the first four weeks, Tom hasn’t looked right. The frustration has mounted at times on the sidelines and I think it’s because he doesn’t have enough pals around. We all saw the look in Brady’s eye when he embraced Danny Amendola last Sunday, there was genuine longing for the good old days in his eyes.

As we get older, we get more set in our ways and Brady trying to make reverses, swing passes and sweeps work without Cooks, Dola and Edelman might just be too much for a 41-year old quarterback. Having Edelman back, who Brady seems to look at as a little brother should lift 12’s spirits and hedge some of the change that this offense is going through.

How fickle are sports fans? Here’s a recap of popular arguments being made about the Patriots two weeks ago:

-Sony Michel is a bust.

- Brady has no weapons.

-These receivers are terrible.

-The Dynasty is over.

And now Michel has rushed for 200 yards in the last two games, the Pats are coming off of routs of Miami and Indy. Suddenly we have offensive weapons crawling out of our ears heading into week 6 and it didn’t take any massive moves.

Dorsett catches a football while doing a summersault, Patterson catches a football and doesn’t fall down like a deer on a frozen pond, Gordon catches Brady’s 500th TD and Edelman’s back doing Edelman things.

I had a co-worker say to me today: “Where does this leave Chris Hogan now?” After Detroit, that was the only pass catcher that anybody trusted and a week later people are questioning if he even has a place in this offense.

What a difference a week makes!?!
