In New England, Even Unconditional Love Has Conditions….

With the success that all four major New England sports teams have had over the last 15 years, fans of these teams can be satisfied that they have seen each team win at least one championship.

The Red Sox broke a curse and a drought all at the same time to bring the Fenway Faithful The Commissioner’s Trophy in 2004. This year’s team is currently FIFTY THREE games over .500 and is looking like a team that nobody wants to face come October.

Speaking of The Fenway Faithful, how many of you readers used to go out to the Ground Round for The House of the Fenway Faithful about a dozen years ago? That is where I first met Clem, The Duffer, The Reverend, Spekhardt and most importantly Mr. Jeff Solari.

My wife and I were the only two customers in the restaurant that wore Yankees gear to each gathering of The Faithful and quite honestly, we were accepted with open arms. Yes, we are Yankees Fans but we are not THOSE kinds of “Yankees Fans” that this bitter rivalry produces. We don’t bring up the past and we don’t hate. We spew facts and love and that is it. Those gatherings were some of the best times my wife and I had, pre-kid years of course.

The Celtics and The Bruins have each been able to add a Championship Banner to the rafters of The TD Banknorth Garden. The Bruins were able to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup once again. And not only did The Celtics earn the coveted Larry O’Brien Trophy, they might also be responsible for the current trend of “Super Teams” with star players joining forces to try and bring home a title.

When Kevin Garnett and Ray “Jesus Shuttlesworth” Allen joined Paul Pierce and The Celtics, it was the start of a short lived, yet magical ride that Celtic’s Fans got to enjoy.

The Patriots have been the most successful of the New England teams over the last 15 years, winning 14 of 15 AFC East titles since 2003 (Damn you Dolphins), winning seven AFC titles and bringing home FIVE Lombardi Trophies. Bob and Bill Kraft have assembled a dynasty that seems to be unmatched by any other professional sports team out there.

YET….fans are often not happy. They all act like Danny Ocean. They. Want. More.

Can you imagine the outrage that will take place if this year’s Sox team doesn’t win the World Series?!?

The heartbreak that will occur if TB12 doesn’t take his usual pack of run of the mill teammates and somehow make them all superstars on their way to hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in Atlanta next February?!?

The disbelief that will occur when Danny Ainge’s rat pack of young hustlers mixed with savvy vets can’t at least go to The Finals now that LeBron is in The West?!?

New England Sports fans are some of the most passionate fans in all of the nation, heck even the world. Just make sure that if they are cheering for you that you live up to the hype, because that hype is for real folks.
