The Pats Look More Like An SUV Than a Sports Car. And That's OK!

What’s your dream car? If you could have any car, from any year, delivered to your driveway with a big red bow on top, what would it be?

This is a tough question to answer for me, because I’m a bit of car nut. Other than changing the oil and filter and squirting some air in the tires, I’m certainly no mechanic, so I’m not particularly interested in a fixer-upper. I’m more of an Armor-All on the dashboard and Turtle Wax on the paint kind of guy.

I’m a fairly decisive person, I don’t hem and haw when a decision has to be made. But when it comes to my dream car? That’s a toughie. One thing for sure-it won’t be anything from after 1980. For me, it’s got to be a classic…hard to beat a ’57 Chevy, a ’60 Cadillac Eldorado, or a ’61 DeSoto (the one with the weird headlights.) But if Solari was holding a pistol to my head and forced me to choose, I think I’d have to go with……..(insert drumroll here)…..the 1969 Pontiac GTO, and it has to be black.

I’d have the dashboard and paint job glistening so bright on my baby, you’d have to wear shades when checking-it out.

Here’s the thing: I’m never going to have my dream car. Projected salary levels and financial priorities in mind, it just ain’t ever going to happen. And I’m OK with that. But I can always dream, can’t I?

Really, the car I’m driving presently is a nice ride, and very practical too. All the grandkids can fit into the back seats of my ’15 GMC Acadia (love the third seat) and the sound system is pretty boss. It’s a fine, practical solution that matches our commuting needs.

This is how I’m feeling about the ’17-’18 model of our NE Patriots. It’s not a dream team, is it? Nothing terribly flashy, not a squad that makes you “ooh” and “aah” as you walk by a team picture.

Yet, it’s a fine team, getting the job done in a practical, not real flashy kind of way. And that’s fine with me. Kind of matches the look of their coach in his scruffy hoodie. Sensible, get-the-job done kind of team, just like my ’15 GMC.

Considering the level of play in the NFL these days, you don’t have to look like a black, shiny, ’69 Pontiac GTO. Maybe a 2015 GMC Acadia has what it takes to win the Super Bowl. Ya think?
